For children who have the benefit of stable family life, the end of high school is often an exciting time. They may be heading off to college, pursuing career opportunities close to home, or anything in between. Of course, for these kids, there is often a fallback option in place – they can simply live at home if things don’t work out in the “real world”. That’s not available to foster kids, which is why THP in Sutter County is such an important program. By taking advantage of what is available with THP in Sutter County, former foster youth can turn to resources that will help them secure housing, seek education, and find employment.

The Big Challenge Solved by THP in Sutter County

Finding a place to live is perhaps the biggest challenge for a young person leaving foster care. If they are unable to find a secure, stable place to call home, these young people are in danger of becoming homeless – perhaps permanently. With THP in Sutter County to help, it’s possible that the scary outcome of homelessness can be avoided entirely. Given the serious challenge associated with escaping life on the street and getting into a stable situation with a home and a job, it’s extremely important that kids aging out of the foster system never end up homeless in the first place.

A New Perspective

Many young people can’t wait to graduate from high school, become adults in the eyes of the law, and strike out on their own. The story is a little different for young people in foster care. While they might be excited to be in full control, there is likely a significant amount of fear and anxiety that goes along with that excitement. For most, there is no safety net or backup plan – they are completely on their own. With THP in Sutter County, however, support is available and some of that fear may be converted into optimism for what lies ahead.
