Foster agencies play a vital role in the lives of youth across America. A foster family agency (FFA) is there to help and oversee the process of placing children who cannot remain safely in the home of their parent(s). Foster agencies are private organizations but operate as a non-profit. They work to recruit potential foster parents, help get them certified and train them to work with children that have a history of abuse, neglect, or may require intensive care.
Family agencies are broken down into two program types. These program types determine where a child will be placed and what services they will require. Here are the two types of foster family programs.
Treatment Foster Care
Treatment foster care refers to a child that the agency has determined has needs that will not allow them to be placed with in a family home. If the child was not referred to a foster family agency they may require a group home. With a family agency that provides treatment care a child will receive treatment services that a non-treatment service would not provide.
Non-Treatment Foster Care
The non-treatment foster care agency is there to provide the children with their basic needs. These children typically require less services and can be placed in a more traditional family home.
Both types of foster family agencies work very hard to get children placed in the best care possible for their specific needs. Some children have more emotional struggles than other and it is important to identify these needs.
