3 Foster Care Programs in California

Foster Care Programs | The foster care system is very important for many children throughout California and the entire United States. Since foster children can vary in age and needs there are different foster care programs to cater to specific needs. Here are a few of the foster care programs that are available in California.

Intensive Services Foster Care (ISFC)

The ISFC serves children and youth who have complex needs. These children require more support than a standard foster care program provides. ISFC includes an individualized treatment plan that focuses on the unique needs of each child. ISFC provides a team approach to the treatment of the foster child, with the foster parent playing an integral part. The foster parents that are part of the ISFC program receive additional training to provide them with the tools necessary to work with children that have special needs.

Respite

Respite care gives adults the opportunity to act as a foster parent to children but without the daily commitment. Respite care providers serve foster children who need care for short periods of time for one reason or another. These providers work directly with the foster parenting community, without becoming a full-time foster parent.

Transitional Housing Program Plus (THP Plus)

The THP Plus is not a traditional foster care program but it is directly related and provides a much-needed service. Transitional Housing Program Plus works to help foster children that have turned 18 and still need help transitioning into adulthood. Often children turn 18 and have no home, no diploma or a job. The THP Plus is there to help these young adults transition and become productive citizens.
