THP Plus | Providing a safe and caring home for children under the age of 18 is an extremely important mission. But what happens when those kids turn 18 and move beyond the scope of the foster system? Unfortunately, many of them are put in the difficult situation of being forced to provide for themselves immediately – something they are often unable to do. Through the Transitional Housing Program Plus, THP Plus, Children First FFA helps foster youth make a safe, successful transition into the community.
Setting Up for Success
Even a child who has had a steady upbringing with supportive parents is likely to have trouble with the transition to adulthood. This is simply a difficult phase of life, as an individual learns what it is like to make their own money, find their own shelter, and much more. The challenge is much greater for those who have aged out of the foster care system and the department of social services. Once the support from that system ends, many 18-year-olds face an uncertain future filled with more questions than answers.

The goal of THP Plus is to create a smoother path to a successful adult life for former foster children. One way that goal can be achieved is to reduce the rate of homelessness among former foster youth. Having a stable place to live is the first building block of creating an adult life, and Children First FFA is proud to make that a reality for as many former foster children as possible in Tehama, Siskiyou, Shasta and Sutter County.
