That’s certainly an important part of the foster system, but foster care for teens is also very important. Whether the teen needs foster care for the first time or has been in the system for years, getting great foster care for teens can set them on a path toward a successful future. 

Teens in Foster Care: The Guidance They Need

If you think back to the time when you were a teenager, the world probably seemed quite overwhelming and confusing. You didn’t know what to do with your life just yet, and you were looking at an uncertain future. Now, imagine having those feelings without a stable family to rely on for guidance and support. It’s easy to understand why so many former foster kids wind up homeless as adults. Good foster care for teens can easily mean the difference between homelessness and happy, healthy adulthood, and you can play a big role in achieving a positive outcome. 

Getting Started with Foster Care for Teens

Before you can be a resource parent for a teen or a child of any age, you need to go through the necessary steps to meet the various requirements of the program. The sooner you start working on meeting those requirements, the sooner you can make a difference in the life of a child.

Don’t delay getting started because you aren’t sure if you’ll meet all the requirements – as long as you have a passion for helping in this way, the best thing you can do is start as soon as possible and gather the necessary information as you go. 

Over 40% of foster care placement calls to Children First are for teens. It is very difficult to find homes for teens. Due to an influx of calls for teen placements & a lack of available homes, in the last 30 days, we were only able to place 11% of the kids we received calls on who were between ages 13-18.
